This individual will be responsible for driving design for excellence tools, processes and capabilities for the global Environmental Health R&D organization.  Key responsibilities will include working with business stakeholders (supply chain, quality, product management, etc.) to develop strategies and action plans to successfully enhance the design of all new products, as well as enhance existing products, in the areas of product platforming/structuring/reuse, design for manufacturing (DFM)/design for assembly (DFA), Design for Serviceability (DFS), etc.  Additionally, this individual will be responsible for implementing progress metrics tied to improvements in design outputs.  Finally, this individual will be a key liaison for the supply chain on quality improvement programs, value analysis projects and cost reduction initiatives.
 
Essential Duties and Position Responsibilities 
  • Drive the global R&D function, working with all business stakeholders, to develop and implement strategies & prioritized action plans for each product line.
  • Develop a product platform roadmap to optimize parts/component/design re-use, enabling lower supply chain costs and speed to market.
  • Utilize metrics to monitor organizational performance/outputs, DFM/DFA & design quality.
  • Support related productivity efforts to improve organizational effectiveness (e.g., continuous improvement, simplification, etc.).
  • Work with quality and sourcing teams to develop processes to drive earlier strategic supplier engagement in the design process, including focusing on producibility, supplier measurement & process capabilities, and design/specification/cost optimization.
  • Identify & implement tools and processes related to design for manufacturing, design of assembly, should-cost capabilities, system requirements flow-down, etc.
  • Grow organizational capabilities around design for six sigma (DFSS), including design of experiments, systems engineering/trade-offs, requirements tracking & verification/validation, use of statistical analysis/techniques for design decision making, etc.
  • Drive improvements in design documentation, including implementation of CTQs, acceptance criteria, etc.
  • Build and deliver a training roadmap to grow the global R&D capabilities related to design excellence & design for six sigma.
