Job Details

Molecular Systems Engineering is a National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and jointly headed by the University of Basel and ETH Zürich.

This NCCR combines the chemistry, biology, physics with bioinformatics, engineering and medicine. The scientific aim is to synthesize, assemble and engineer molecular modules into molecular factories approaching the complexity of a cell. These molecular factories will be used for industrial production of high added value products or to control cellular systems in health and disease.

To complete our Management Team, we are looking for a Science Information and Communication Officer (m/f).

 

Your assignments

Main activities include:

  • Assist the directorate in all science-related matters
  • Ensure the link between the management team and the scientists of the NCCR
  • Coordinate, write and edit scientific- and general public articles, reports, press-releases and proposals in collaboration with the steering board of the NCCR
  • Organize meetings, site-visits, video-conferences and international congresses
  • Fund-raising and technology transfer activities
  • Conduct interviews with scientists to establish a network of experts both from academia and industry
  • Review and amend work in response to principal investigators' feedback
  • Create appropriate artwork

 

Activity Rate: 80-100%

 

Your profile

The candidate must to be able to understand and link complex scientific information. She/he also needs to be able to write in a clear and accurate language that can be understood either by a lay or a scientific public.

This position requires a solid background both in communication and science. He/she must also convey an enthusiasm for the work he/she describes.

The candidate needs to demonstrate:

  • excellent written and oral science communication skills in English and German
  • care for the detail
  • self-initiative and independence
  • a strong interest in and dedication for science
  • ability to think logically and understand complex ideas from various scientific disciplines
  • organizational and time management skills
  • ability to work on a tight schedule
  • determination, flexibility, persistence, motivation and dedication
  • The candidate must have demonstrated scientific research (PhD in chemistry, biology or related field), leadership and communication skills.
