School of Medicine

The School of Medicine is a leading provider of medical education and medical research in Queensland, with the country's largest medical program. The four year graduate entry medical program offers an integrated, case-based curriculum including early clinical experiences. The School is a diverse enterprise operating over multiple sites, with Queensland Health and private health service providers as major partners. Geographically, the School extends throughout Queensland with major sites in Brisbane, the outer metropolitan areas, and a number of rural and remote area facilities throughout the rest of the state. The UQ medical degree is also delivered overseas in Brunei and the United States of America, emphasising the global nature of the School.

The role

The prestigious role of the Head and Mayne Chair of Medicine will provide academic leadership in the field of medicine and will be expected to sustain a vibrant research program, to facilitate growth, innovation and enterprise within both the Discipline of Medicine and the School of Medicine more generally. They will have a demonstrated high level of skills within, and a commitment to, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research and clinical service. The appointee will play an important role in the management of relationships with the community, relevant professions, students and other stakeholders of the School.

The person

The successful candidate will have substantial leadership experience and skill, strong background in medical and/or health sciences education or similar, together with strong organisational management skills. Applicants must possess medical qualifications with specialist training in Medicine registrable in Queensland with additional postgraduate qualifications, a PhD or equivalent and extensive post-doctoral experience. Demonstrated teaching skills at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and an ability to establish relationships and promote the Discipline of Medicine at a University or wider community level are essential. Evidence of a contribution to research, including successful external grant applications and an ability to work collaboratively with colleagues will also be required.

Remuneration

This is a part-time, fixed term appointment for five years at Academic Level E (Professor). The remuneration package will be $169,971 per annum (full time equivalent), plus relevant clinical loadings and employer superannuation contributions of up to 17%.  A joint appointment with a Hospital and Health Service may be negotiated for this position.
