Working in the ABMI's Information Centre, the Database and IT Programmer is responsible for database administration, data loading, data quality control, maintaining operability of computer infrastructure, maintaining a suite of online services, and setting up new servers, as required.

 

Duties

  • Develops and maintains databases and database architectures
  • Responsible for data loading and data quality control
  • Develops web services and mobile apps
  • Develops and maintains software, facilitating data collection
  • Deploys and manages ABMI-owned computer infrastructures: Windows servers, Linux servers, user workstations - Windows and Mac, including security, access control, and data backups
  • Maintains and ensures operability of ABMI's owned computer infrastructure on campus: Windows servers, Linux servers, user workstations - Windows and Mac; troubleshoots user issues as required
  • Maintains ABMI's suite of online services, ensure user connectivity, service availability and security; ABMI's suite of services includes, but is not limited to:  various websites, mobile apps, Sharepoint, and ArcGIS servers
  • Provides user account management: new user onboarding, disabling old accounts, etc.
  • Responsible for managing ABMI's relationship with Information Services and Technology (IST)

 

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in computing science or related discipline; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • Minimum 2 years' experience as a database, Java programmer, or C# programmer
  • Experience with at least one web development stack
  • Experience with mobile app development, working knowledge of Apache Cordova, an asset
  • Experience with Windows and Linux Server administration
  • Knowledge of relational databases, SQL and Oracle PL/SQL scripting
  • Knowledge of Linux shell scripting
  • Knowledge of one or more programming languages
  • Team-oriented with excellent relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize, adapt to adapt to rapidly shifting priorities and manage projects from start to completion
