At the Faculty of Humanities there is a PhD fellowship vacant in Medical Humanities. The preferred starting date for the fellowship is 1 January 2017.

 

Qualification requirements

Applicants must have completed a Norwegian Master´s degree or an equivalent degree in History, Literature, Philosophy or another relevant humanistic subject by the application deadline. Applicants with a professional studies degree in medical or health-related subjects and relevant additional courses in humanistic studies may also be considered. The Master’s thesis must be submitted for assessment before the application deadline, and the degree must have been awarded prior to the start date of the fellowship.

The Project Proposal must reflect an active cooperation with research in the health sciences, as well as a solid foundation in a humanistic research field. The project should be of relevance to Global Social Challenges – one of the University´s strategic priority areas.

 

About the position

The fellowship normally consists of three years of full time research. On certain conditions it may be an option to add a fourth year consisting of departmental duties. A substantial part of these duties will be teaching, tutoring and evaluation work in connection with one or several of the Faculty´s Study Programs. The details will be regulated in a separate agreement at the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter.

The fellowship´s main goal is the completion of the requirements for a PhD-degree, which qualifies for independent research and for other work that requires special competence.

The successful applicant will be expected to relocate to the University of Bergen and to conform to the regulations that apply to the position. The research fellow will enrol in the University´s approved PhD program leading to the degree. The Research Fellow will receive a work place and a supervisor at the Department most appropriate for the project.

 

About the research training:

As a PhD Candidate, the research fellow will be expected to complete the University’s research training programme within three years of full time study. A final plan for the implementation of the research training must be approved by the faculty within three months of the start date. It is a condition that the research fellow satisfy the enrolment requirements for the PhD programme at the University of Bergen.

 

Salary

The salary will be in accordance with level 50 (code 1017/frame 20.8) on the Norwegian government salary scale, currently NOK 430 200 gross p.a. A compulsory 2 % contribution to the State Pension Fund (Statens pensjonskasse) will be deducted from the gross salary.
