SENIOR LECTURER

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for:

• Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching of modules in the Department;
• Developing a research programme in their area of expertise and/or expanding existing research programmes;
• Publishing research articles in the foremost national and international accredited journals;
• Supervising postgraduate Master’s and Doctoral students within the research focus areas;
• Performing assigned departmental duties (e.g. of an administrative nature).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering materials;
• A PhD degree in Engineering or Engineering materials that follows the previous qualification;
• Three years’ teaching experience;
• The expertise area must be in one or all of the following areas: civil engineering materials, concrete, or cement;
• A proven research record supported by publications in peer reviewed journals.

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

• Show the ability to teach large undergraduate classes;
• Experience in cement and concrete materials;
• Applicants must have an appropriate NRF research rating or currently be legible to apply for an appropriate rating through his/her university;
• Candidate must preferably be registered or registerable with the Engineering Council of South Africa or registered as Candidate Engineer or registerable or registered as a registered Scientist with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
