There is a vacancy for a PhD position in Child Welfare at the Department of Health Promotion and Development. This position is for a fixed term period of 4 years, affiliated to the research group Child Welfare, equality and social inclusion (BLI), and the master’s programme in child welfare.

The Faculty of Psycology offers professional study programmes for psychologists, is responsible for university tuition in pedagogy for UiB's own staff, contributes to the pedagogical content of teacher training and offers academic degrees within a wide range of studies: child welfare, health promotion work, pedagogics, special education, psychology, work and organisational psychology, and speech and language therapy. The faculty's main focus areas in research are connected with health, education, development-related research and basic research in its widest sense.

The Department of Health Promotion and Development (HEMIL centre) is one of five departments at the Faculty of Psychology. The HEMIL centre, which is interdisciplinary, covers health and social science research both locally and with a global perspective. The Department is responsible for three master programmes: master programme in child welfare, master programme in health promoting work and health psychology and a master programme in global development theory and practice. The Department has three research groups: BLI, SIPA and Mc- Venues. The research groups collaborate with researchers from other faculties and institutions of education, both nationally and internationally.

 

Information about the project/work tasks:

The PhD position is affiliated to the research group BLI. Key areas of research are related to the child welfare services, the clients of the child welfare service, ethnic minority families’ encounters with the child welfare service and collaboration with other services. The work obligation is mainly linked to tuition tasks in the master’s programme in child welfare. The research theme for the PhD project must be central in the work of child welfare.

 

Qualifications and personal qualities:

  • The applicant must hold a master’s degree in child welfare or other relevant degree in the work of child welfare.
  • Good knowledge of the work of child welfare through basic education, master education or work experience will be weighted
  • The minimum requirement for applicants is normally a B or better both in the master’s thesis and for the master degree in total.
  • You must be able to work independently and in a structured manner and have the ability to cooperate with others and enthusiasm for research and tuition.
  • Being able to use written and oral English
  • Proficiency in Norwegian.

 

About the PhD position:

The duration of the PhD position is 4 years, of which 25 per cent of the time each year comprises obligatory duties associated with research, teaching and dissemination of results. The employment period may be reduced if you have previously been employed in a recruitment position.

 

About the doctoral training:

As a PhD Candidate, you must participate in an approved educational programme for a PhD degree within a period of 3 years. When your qualification for the position is evaluated you will also be evaluated for admission to the PhD programme at the Faculty of Psychology.
