Affiliated with Health & Wellness Services at the University of Alberta, Counselling & Clinical Services invites applications for the position of Temporary Registered Psychologist. 

Reporting to the Director of Counselling & Clinical Services (CCS), the CCS Registered Psychologist is accountable for the provision of individual and group counselling to a large post-secondary population that features a wide range of clinical issues.  Successful candidates shall be comfortable operating within a multidisciplinary team, in central and community settings on the main campus. Preferred candidates will have experience using a brief therapy framework within a collaborative care team environment that includes registered psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, physicians and administrative support staff. The incumbent will provide services within the CCS clinic and satellite faculty locations on the main campus, initiate outreach activities within community populations and deliver consultation services to faculty, staff and others. The successful candidate will also be available for some evening work, be involved in the supervision/training of graduate counselling students and in reflecting teams and work with crisis intervention situations.

 

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Providing students with counselling related to a broad range of mental health issues including depression, anxiety, relationship discord, addictions, family and acculturation challenges that may impede healthy functioning and academic success
  • Developing and delivering group counselling programs, workshops and presentations with psycho-educational and process formats  
  • Providing confidential consultations with the University of Alberta academic and administrative staff regarding potentially suicidal, distressed and at-risk students
  • Providing individual consultations to University of Alberta faculty and staff, including Residence Services and the International Centre, on various psychological issues affecting students
  • Collaborating with other campus and community mental health stakeholders in the provision of campus mental health education and support
  • Forming intervention teams involving other University of Alberta services (i.e. U of A Protective Services, University Health Centre, Sexual Assault Centre, Dean of Students)
  • Participating in the formal or informal supervision of graduate students, which may include PhD student interns, provisionally registered psychologists, and Masters and PhD students

 

Although a combination of education and experience may be considered, the ideal candidate should possess:

  • A PhD degree in Psychology
  • Five years of experience post-registration preferred
  • Registration in good standing with the College of Alberta Psychologists, adherence to the Canadian Code of Ethics and the Professional Guidelines for Psychologists
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to supervise students
  • Familiarity, knowledge and experience with interdisciplinary care teams, and multiple psychological theories including best-practice interventions in the provision of mental health services
  • Excellent information systems skills, including Microsoft Office, Internet and electronic records and scheduling software

 

In accordance with the Sessional and Other Temporary Staff Agreement, this position has an end date of May 19, 2017, and offers a comprehensive benefits package (which can be viewed at www.hrs.ualberta.ca) and annual salary range commensurate with experience and qualifications.
