The Department of Psychosocial Science, at The Faculty of Psychology, has a vacant position as Associate Professor in Social Psychology.

The Faculty of Psychology offers professional study programmes for psychologists, is responsible for the pedagogical training of the University of Bergen's own staff, contributes towards the pedagogical aspects of teacher training and offers academic degrees within a wide range of studies: child welfare, health promotion work, pedagogics, special education, psychology, work and organisational psychology, and speech and language therapy. The faculty's main focus areas in research are connected with health, education, development-related research and basic research in its widest sense.

The Department has in total 31 permanent academic positions and is responsible for the tuition of one-year psychology, the basic clinical skills of a psychologist, the bachelor programmes in work and organisational psychology and within general psychology, and a master programme in psychology (with two programme options at the Department: work and organisational psychology, and psychological science), as well as the PhD programmes at The Faculty of Psychology. The Department also offers courses within continuing and further education. The Department carries out research within basic psychological science and within applied areas such as school psychology, work and organisational psychology, and community psychology.

 

Work tasks/area of research:

The appointed person will be required to teach and supervise students at the professional study of psychology, and also other courses and study programmes at the Department where social psychology is included, for example the one-year introductory psychology programme and the bachelor and master programmes. It will also be necessary to teach at PhD level. The successful applicant will be given grading tasks, administrative tasks and participate in meetings and committee work in line with the other employees at the Department. He or she will take part of the Department's research activity and teaching activities within social psychology. We specifically welcome applicants with teaching and research competence within theme of diversity, social groups (within- and between relations), and group dynamics. The successful applicant will take part in further development of research in social psychology at the Department, including the establishment of professional networks and the recruitment of younger researchers.

 

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have achieved a PhD in psychology (including having defended the thesis) or equivalent at the time of application
  • Experience with qualitative research methods will be seen as an  advantage
  • He or she must be able to work independently and in a structured manner
  • He or she must have strong communication and collaboration skills and must be able to work well together with both colleagues and students
  • Emphasis will be placed on motivation and personal suitability for the position
  • He or she must be able to generate a well-functioning learning environment
  • Basic education in pedagogics is a requirement for the position. The successful applicant will be offered training in this respect if this requirement is not met at the time of appointment.
  • Teaching language is mainly Norwegian. It is a requirement that the successful applicant within a period of two years following the appointment, must pass a Norwegian/Scandinavian language test and have the ability to lecture in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language.

This is equivalent to a gross annual salary of NOK 510,100-591,400 Further promotions are made according to qualifications and length of service.
