The School of Social and Political Sciences is the largest school in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, with over 100 academic staff, many of whom have been appointed since the inception of the school in 2008. The school will shortly move to a state-of-the-art building, confirming the extraordinary investment in social and political sciences at Sydney in the past five years. The Department of Government and International Relations is a comprehensive political science department, with particular expertise in international relations, international security, comparative politics, Australian politics, public policy and political theory. Both politics and the social sciences generally were ranked 5/5 in the 2015 ERA exercise.

We are calling for applications for a Scholarly Teaching Fellowship being offered to early career academics in International Relations. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the teaching of core units in international relations at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level. This could include, but not be limited to, international relations theory, IPE, international organisations, international history, and gender issues pertaining to international relations. The successful candidate may specialise in a dedicated area of the field, but the key criterion is the ability to teach widely across the international relations curriculum.

You will engage with and contribute to faculty learning and teaching activities and processes and, while the role is predominantly teaching, the Fellowships allow some opportunity to contribute to research. 
 

Under the Fellowship rules you must be able to provide verification that you satisfy the following criteria:

  • have fixed term and/or casual employment experience totalling at least 12 months in one or more Australian universities over the preceding five years
  • have been awarded or have submitted a PhD qualification in International Relations
  • do not hold, or have previously held, any continuing academic appointment in a university.


Other essential criteria include:

  • a demonstrated capacity to teach in one or more of the following areas: international relations theory, IPE, international organisations, international history, and gender issues pertaining to International Relations. The successful candidate may specialise in a dedicated area of the field, but the key criterion is the ability to teach widely across the international relations curriculum.
  • a demonstrated capacity to contribute to the core teaching of units in international relations at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level.
