Job Details
The School of Biological Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track position as Senior Lecturer in Nutritional Biochemistry (Salary Level: SL 1-3 $99,945-$106,745). Applicants should have a strong record of research and teaching with research focusing on nutritional interventions that impact human health and/or animal health and/or sustainable agriculture. Research projects would include the mechanisms of human and animal responses to nutritional modulation using genomic, genetic, proteomic, metabolomics and/or biochemical and physiological approaches. The appointee will teach into SBS courses in Nutritional Science, Biochemistry and Biomedical Science more generally.
The successful applicant will be expected to collaborate with other researchers within and outside the University, through the Human Nutrition Unit (HNU) led by Professor Sally Poppitt, and with the SBS Biochemistry, Plant and Microbial Science groups (SBS Staff and the Joint Graduate School in Plant and Food Science). They will have to establish their own research portfolio that attracts external funding and postgraduate students. They will also be expected to teach in the School’s academic programme at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The School of Biological Sciences currently employs 180 staff and supervises 160 PhD students. The School has modern laboratories and facilities (see SBS web site: http://www.sbs.auckland.ac.nz/), and has excellent facilities in genomics, proteomics and metabolomics. The Human Nutrition Unit (HNU) is Australasia’s only long-term residential nutrition facility with the capability of conducting diet controlled interventions in order to demonstrate cause and effect relationships between diet, health and disease. It is sited within a purpose developed facility at Mt Eden approximately 3km from the City Campus. Infrastructure for clinical trials includes a number of specialist facilities including metabolic kitchen and duplicate diet preparation area; clinical assessment rooms; overnight facilities and long stay study/bed rooms including participant bathrooms/showers; participant lounge and dining rooms; biological sample handling facility, for phlebotomy and urine collects; central location, with adequate on street parking.
