Centre for Learning Anatomical Sciences is an active group within the Academic Unit of Medical Education (AUME) in the Faculty of Medicine

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced individuals to join our Faculty Operating Service (FOS). The FOS is the professional service to the University led by the Heads of Faculty Operations. The service works with Faculty Deaneries and Senior Leadership Teams to support those areas of work which provide essential services to the Faculties core business and underpins the achievement of the strategic objectives of the University.

This post is currently based in the Faculty of Medicine, Clinical and Experimental Sciences academic unit, supporting a very busy Professor of Ophthalmology, his ophthalmic research group and clinical and non-clinical academics.  The role also provides administrative support within the NHS environment, in areas involving clinical trials, research and patient clinics.

You will have significant experience of working in a similar PA role within a busy and diverse office.  Strong diary management skills are essential for this role as well as minute-taking and organising travel and meetings/seminars.

You will be a team player with a keen eye for detail and a flexible, can-do attitude.  Excellent IT and inter-personal skills are essential, as is a commitment to providing excellent customer service.

As a key point of contact for staff and students you will need to be a confident and sympathetic communicator with a strong sense of customer focus and the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise your work in a fast-moving environment.

This post is based in the Laboratory and Pathology Block at Southampton General Hospital (SGH).

Staff Parking: Please note that staff car parking is very limited at SGH.  An application for on-site parking, (or the park and ride scheme), can be made through the hospital parking department, Travelwise.  Specific criteria determine eligibility.  Travelwise, (not the University of Southampton), administer the parking at the hospital and due to limited availability, staff are encouraged to utilise other methods of getting to work such as cycling, walking or the local bus services.

The University of Southampton offers 20 days annual leave, plus 8 bank holidays with an additional 6 extra statuary leave days over Easter & Christmas when the University is closed for all staff (all pro-rata for p/t).

Application procedure:

You should submit your completed online application form at www.jobs.soton.ac.uk. The application deadline will be midnight on the closing date stated above. If you need any assistance, please call Jennifer Dickson (Recruitment Team) on +44 (0) 23 8059 3462. Please quote reference 740516FC on all correspondence.

Please note, due to the high number of applications received feedback will be provided to shortlisted candidates only where requested.

The Faculty of Medicine holds an Athena SWAN Silver Award demonstrating commitment to equal opportunities and gender balance in the workplace. The Faculty recognises that applicants may seek flexible working patterns which will be considered as part of the recruitment process. For further information including key benefits designed to help maintain and support employees' well-being and work-life balance, please see our working with us website pages.
