The Sydney Nursing School is highly regarded nationally and internationally for academic excellence, quality teaching and innovative research. In 2012, Sydney Nursing School introduced a new Bachelor of Nursing (Advanced Studies) program to broaden available preregistration nursing opportunities at the University of Sydney. Sydney Nursing School also has an exciting suite of advanced and specialised nursing programs in Cancer and Haematology, Advanced Nursing Practice, Clinical Trials Practice, Emergency, Intensive Care, Mental Health, Primary Health Care and Nurse Practitioner, and a range of research initiatives linked to these areas. Preregistration students can maintain broad study interests by linking their bachelor degree in arts, science or health sciences to a Master of Nursing, through combined degree courses. The preregistration Master of Nursing can also provide a career pathway for graduate entry students. Local, international and offshore students benefit from valuable knowledge and specialist skills which are current and marketable, and responsive to current and future community health care needs.

We are seeking to appoint an Associate Lecturer or Lecturer under the university’s Scholarly Teaching Fellowship scheme. You will have responsibility for teaching in at least two of the following areas: clinical nursing, acute care, professional nursing practice. You will have tertiary teaching experience and relevant acute care and professional practice experience. You will engage with and contribute to faculty learning and teaching activities and processes and, while the role is predominantly teaching, you will have some opportunity to contribute to research.

Under the Fellowship rules you must be able to provide verification that you satisfy the following criteria:

  • have fixed term and/or casual employment experience totalling at least 12 months in one or more Australian universities over the preceding five years
  • have been awarded or have submitted or are working towards a PhD qualification related to nursing or nursing education
  • not hold, or have previously held, any continuing academic appointment in a university.


Essential:

  • a master’s or equivalent qualification related to acute care
  • experience in higher education teaching and learning and demonstrated ability to teach acute care to health profession students
  • experience in development and management of eLearning sites
  • excellent organisational and managerial skills and willing to contribute to faculty governance.


Desirable criteria

  • experience in hospital acute care practice
  • a graduate qualification in education
  • experience in higher education curriculum development at undergraduate and graduate levels.
