Job Details

Project Title: Functional Studies and Inhibition of Deubiquitinating (DUB) Enzymes

We seek to appoint a Postdoctoral Fellow to the research team led by Dr Elton Zeqiraj in the Faculty of Biological Sciences at the University of Leeds, Leeds, UK. The position is funded by the Wellcome Trust and is available for 3 years, with the possibility of an extension for a further 2 years.

You will undertake biochemical, structural and functional studies on members of the deubiquitinating (DUB) family of enzymes and macromolecular complexes that contribute to DUB regulation. Our goal is to gain insights into the control and cellular roles of DUB enzymes with a specific interest in Zn-dependent DUBs that are involved in signalling processes linked to cancer and inflammation. A major focus will be on identifying and dissecting the mechanism of action of DUB inhibitors, with the aim of developing tool compounds for understanding DUB biology and generating lead compounds for early-stage drug discovery.

The position will suit someone interested in ubiquitin signalling, drug discovery, cryo-electron microscopy and X-ray crystallography.

You should have or be close to completing a PhD in Structural Biology, Biochemistry or related discipline. Practical experience in cryo-electron microscopy and/or X-ray crystallography would be advantageous.

Informal enquiries may be made to to Dr Elton Zeqiraj, email e.zeqiraj@leeds.ac.uk

Interviews are expected to be held: between 20-30 August 2016
