Job Details

Applications are invited for a Research Associate to work in the group of Prof. Stuart Wilson in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the University of Sheffield. The department was ranked 1st in biomedical sciences and =5th in biological sciences in the U.K. in the last national census (REF2014). The BBSRC funded post will explore how RNAs, including mRNAs and long non-coding RNAs are localised in human cells in the nucleus and cytoplasm. You will also investigate how RNA localisation is altered in response to cellular stresses such as DNA damage.

The project will exploit state-of-the-art technologies including CRISPR/CAS9 genome-editing and Next Generation RNA sequencing as well as other molecular, cellular and biochemical techniques. The successful applicant will join a well-funded laboratory which forms a part of the Sheffield Institute for Nucleic Acids (SInFoNiA). SInFoNiA provides an exciting and collaborative work environment involving 19 different laboratories working on many aspects of nucleic acid biology. SInFoNiA has state of the art research facilities at its disposal (http://genome.group.shef.ac.uk/facilities/) including mass spectrometry, next generation DNA sequencing, bioinformatics support and provides a world class research environment.

Candidate requirements:

You will have a PhD in an area of molecular biology, biochemistry or genetics, (or equivalent experience) with an outstanding academic track record and ideally have at least one first-authored research publication in an internationally recognized peer-reviewed journal. You will have a strong background in biochemistry, molecular biology or cellular biology. With a proven track record in molecular biology techniques necessary to study the function of proteins involved in mammalian gene expression.
