This is an outstanding opportunity for a Chair in Computer and Information Security. You will lead a new research group in the Department of Computer Science, University of Sheffield, and establish an agenda for security and privacy research across the wider university. Since it was established in 1982, the Department of Computer Science has attained an international reputation for its research and teaching. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercise, we were ranked 5th out of 89 departments in the UK for computer science research. Our vision is to achieve research excellence and impact by translating fundamental knowledge into practice, through collaboration with end users. Research in the Department is organised into a number of groups: machine learning, algorithms, complex systems modelling, natural language processing, speech and hearing, verification, testing, visual computing, and organisations, information and knowledge. There is substantial cross-group research activity in many areas, ensuring that research is multidisciplinary and collaborative. Computer and information security is a growing interest at Sheffield; the Department of Computer Science has already made one appointment in this area and there is related expertise in other departments such as Law, Mathematics and Statistics, and Politics. To drive our research agenda in computer and information security forward, we now seeking to appoint an outstanding candidate at chair level. Your success in this role will be demonstrated through your ability to visualise, build and lead a world-class interdisciplinary research centre in computer and information security at The University of Sheffield. You will hold a PhD in Computer Science or a relevant subject area (or equivalent experience) and have experience of securing significant income. You will have experience of developing and delivering high quality teaching at a variety of levels and have substantial external recognition and high professional standing. The post has an exceptional package of benefits, including funding for PhD students and computing infrastructure. In addition, you will lead the recruitment of a further three academic posts to your new research group. You will be relieved from undergraduate teaching for 3 years, so that you can focus on building your research group.
