(1) Adult Clinical Geneticists (all ranks considered)
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences has made the commitment for expansion of Medical Genetics activities in Arkansas. The University has established a new Division of Genetics in the College of Medicine with the goal of expansion towards the formation of a free-standing Department of Genetics within in the College.
The current Adult Genetics section has (1) clinical geneticists. UAMS has an independent Department of Genetic Counseling and a Pediatric Genetics & Metabolism section. Current clinical activities include adult genetics clinics, an adult Down syndrome program, cancer genetics, and an interdisciplinary retinal genetics clinic.
The vision for expansion is a comprehensive program for clinical genetic activities to include patient care, participation on interdisciplinary teams, outreach (including telehealth), education interacting at all levels (students, residents, graduate students) for all UAMS colleges, and the establishment of a graduate program.
