The Southampton Health Technology Assessments Centre (SHTAC) is part of the Wessex Institute, within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Southampton.  We are a national centre of excellence and one of nine Technology Assessment Review (TAR) teams commissioned to assess the clinical effectiveness and cost effectiveness of health technologies for NICE and other national policy customers. Our research portfolio includes evaluations of drugs, medical devices, diagnostics and procedures, and other health and public health programmes. Members of SHTAC have expertise in health economic evaluation and decision modelling, systematic review and evidence synthesis, information science and broader health services research.

With the continuation of our TAR contract and expansion of other grant funded research, we are looking to appoint a researcher with excellent analytical and quantitative skills.  Working as part of a team, you would: critically review submitted cost-effectiveness evidence and decision models; develop new models; explore alternative scenarios and uncertainties; write reports and papers; and interact with NICE, committees and other stakeholders.

If you have the relevant background and are enthusiastic about developing your career, this is an opportunity to join a growing team working on an influential research programme. We would expect A PhD in health economics/statistics or equivalent specialist knowledge, skills and experience such as a Masters level qualification in a relevant subject and/or relevant experience in decision analytic modelling.

You would be encouraged and supported to develop your knowledge, skills and research interests, to publish high quality research reports and papers and to present findings at local, national and international conferences and meetings.

The appointment will be for three years in the first instance with good prospects for extension, subject to funding. The post is full time, but part time applications will be considered on a job share basis.

For an informal discussion please e-mail Dr Keith Cooper (k.cooper@soton.ac.uk) or Prof Joanne Lord (j.lord@soton.ac.uk). For more information about SHTAC visit our website at www.southampton.ac.uk/shtac.

Applications will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon completion of PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

Certificate of Sponsorship can be provided for full-time role only.

Application Procedure:
