Job DescriptionIn this project, you will work closely together with SABIC on the synthesis and evaluation of biobased and strong polymer membranes. New self-assembling block and graft copolymers will be prepared and by selectively degrading / removing one of the components, pores are formed in the membranes. The polymer that is removed is not only biobased (not fossil), it can also be reused, which makes this research very ‘green’. During the research, knowledge will be gathered to steer the characteristics of the porous membranes, in order to answer business driven questions from SABIC.
You will be appointed to the department of Biobased Materials, which is part of the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences. You will operate from the Brightlands Chemelot Campus laboratories situated at Europe’s second biggest industrial chemical site, where UM is closely interconnected with the SABIC laboratories.
RequirementsThe postdoc candidate:
- holds a PhD in polymer chemistry;
- has experience with the synthesis of polymers;
- has strong organic and polymer chemistry skills;
- has experience in chemical and physical characterization of polymers;
- preferably already has some affinity with polymer membranes;
- likes to interact closely with industry;
- is result driven, inventive, creative, proactive, counts with potential impact, works ‘accountable’ and works with ownership.
