Oversees and manages scientific projects to support the discovery, development and optimization of Biologics and Vaccine products. Tasks include management and operational oversight of internal and external molecular biology clinical testing laboratories in support of regulated clinical testing. Promotes technical and/or cross functional solutions such as: Applies advanced scientific concepts to complex problems. Consultant to management throughout the organization on specific area of expertise. Provides expert technical representation on multidisciplinary teams. Recognized as a technical expert and significant scientific contributor. Reviews and approves reports. May interface with external agencies and customers within Merck to report findings and status of projects. Maintains familiarity with current scientific/technical literature as it applies to one’s current job responsibilities. Leads and supervises a team of 3 or more.

Qualifications

Education:

- BA/BS Degree in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Cell Biology, Biology, Biochemistry or a related Biological Sciences discipline with at least 12 years of related experience OR

- MS Degree in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Cell Biology, Biology, Biochemistry or a related Biological Sciences discipline. with 8 years of related experience OR

- Ph.D. Degree in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Cell Biology, Biology, Biochemistry or a related Biological Sciences discipline. with at least 4 years of related experience.

Required:

- Knowledge of Molecular Biology and Serology principles and concepts including assay development and validation, laboratory management, and vaccine product life cycle management.

- Experience with Virus and Cell biology assays such as plaque reduction neutralization tests, Immunology assays such as ELISA, multiplexed and Molecular biology assays such as DNA gel electrophoresis, DNA and RNA isolation and Real-Time PCR.

- Experience with high-throughput testing platforms and automation.

- Experience executing formal reagent qualifications, QC trending activities, and troubleshooting for immunological, cell based, and molecular assay methods.

- Leads cross-functional teams and projects to solve problems.

- Effective at building teams.

- Leads the decision-making process.

- Serves as an organization spokesperson on technical issues.

- Operates across disciplines to influence scientific decisions.

- Prepares complex proposals and presentations for senior management, including issue identification and resolution.

- An external voice on the most complex scientific and/or technical concepts.

- Candidate must be trained in GLP requirements and must have experience working in a regulated laboratory environment.
