VACANCY: COMPUTER PROGRAMMER – LANGUAGE TECHNOLOGIES
(3-YEAR FIXED TERM POSITION)
Minimum Requirements
-
A relevant tertiary qualification in language technology, computational linguistics, computer engineering or computer systems development or other relevant field
-
2 years’ programming experience in at least one of the following languages: PERL, C, C++, C#, Java
Job Specification
Responsibilities:
-
Design, development and implementation of computer software
-
Maintenance of existing software
-
Resource and product development
Other competency requirements:
-
Advanced computer literacy in MS Office, internet and email
-
Experience in the use of different operating systems (Windows & Linux)
-
Ability to master new software
-
Ability to work within a team, as well as independently
-
Time management skills and good organisational abilities
-
Be able to prioritise, manage and complete a variety of tasks in line with CTexT’s goals
-
Creative problem-solving abilities
-
Demonstration of language proficiency in order to function optimally in the various multilingual environments of the NWU(short-listed candidates may be required to complete a test)
The following may serve as recommendations:

1 Year experience in text processing, the creation of corpora and lexical database development

1 Year experience in web development and/or database development
