Job Details
Working within the Communications team of the Registrar’s Office (RO) and liaising with key stakeholders and contributors throughout the university, the Photographer/Videographer plays a supporting role in developing and executing the RO’s various marketing and communications strategies.
Reporting to the Associate Director of the RO’s Marketing and Communications unit, the Photographer/Videographer position collaborates with the Communications team to brainstorm, and is then responsible to develop and execute photo and video communications assets for print, web, and social media. The Photographer/Videographer is responsible for project management/day-to-day coordination and execution of their ongoing projects, and ensuring projects adhere to long-term communications planning, goals, and strategic initiatives.
A multi-talented communicator, with creative storytelling capabilities as well as strong editing and technical skills, this individual will also support design and production projects for web, mobile, print, and social media outreach and measurement as required. Once the photo/video assets are final and approved, the successful candidate may also be involved in uploading and executing on social media platforms, as well as reviewing, evaluating, and adapting as needed. This position will work closely with the unit’s Communications Strategy Leads and Coordinators, Web Specialist, and Senior Graphic Designer to ensure a coordinated and consistent approach to all projects.
Duties
- Efficiently gathers, edits, produces and curates digital content to most effectively enhance the university’s brand, image, and reputation for the purposes of recruitment and student engagement
- Develops and implements effective digital assets to enhance communication, including imagery, videos, vodcasts, podcasts, infographics and digital animations
- Develops and provides visual content for materials such as the undergraduate students recruitment viewbook, handbooks, presentations, and support for the student services centre
- Shoots and edits photos and videos for various print, web, and social media projects, including editorial, stock, outdoor/environmental, studio, and portrait
- Sources appropriate images and/or illustrations to support creative executions
- Maintains file management practices including archiving all images and files
- Supports institutional and established identity standards while pushing to interpret them in innovative and meaningful new ways
- Effectively electronically captures the stories of announcements, events, and other significant activities for communications purposes
- Uses understanding of image creation, design layout, type, color, and/or motion, to execute desired project results
- Effectively leads projects from concept to completion on time and on budget, ensuring they meet the highest possible quality standards
- Plans and coordinates all details for photo/video shoots
- Supports and executes social media tactics and strategies
- Provides assistance and input on conceptual and design work
- Manages and develops a network of strategic partnerships and contacts within the RO and throughout the university
Qualifications
- The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communication, journalism or communications; equivalent combinations of education and experience in corporate communications, marketing, or advertising with an emphasis in graphic design, photography or videography will be considered
- Minimum of two years experience as a hands-on photographer, videographer, producer and/or designer, with direct experience in video production and editing (background in branding and visual identity is an asset)
- Photo and video editing experience tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat) and comparable image and video post-production software required
- Audio, imagery and video capture and post-production experience required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong project management and coordination skills, time management and organization skills, accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to meet deadlines and juggle competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Experience in a professional office environment (preferably in marketing, communications or advertising field)
- Ability to create conceptual presentations and mood boards, as well as mechanical production files
