Job Details

A permanent part-time position as professor (50%) of medicine (anesthesiology) is vacant at the University of Bergen, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Department of Clinical Medicine. The position is connected to a permanent part-time clinical position as consultant (50%) at Haukeland University Hospital, Surgical Services Clinic.

If no qualified applicant applies for the professor position, it will be open for an appointment to the position of associate professor (50%).

The position as a consultant:

The applicant must be a specialist in anesthesiology and have a wide clinical experience in the field of anesthesia for most of the surgical disciplines. The applicant must be able to give information to doctors in specialization in anesthesiology and have actively contributed to the education of both medical students, colleagues and as external promotor of anesthesia. Proven willingness and ability to create a good learning environment and a good working environment at the department will be of great importance in the evaluation process. The academic competence should be closely connected to the field of anesthesia. Qualifications

  • The applicant must have a relevant Norwegian PhD-degree or corresponding qualifications
  • The successful candidate will be teaching general and basic clinical skills within the fields of anesthesiology as described in the current curriculum for medical students. The curriculum is under revision and the successful candidate will subsequently participate in the teaching of the medical students following the new curriculum
  • The successful candidate will also supervise Master- and PhD-students at the department and participate in the general teaching at the bachelor-level for the medical, dental, nutrition and pharmacy students as well as participate in other tasks at the department.
  • Emphasis will be put on the applicant’s ability to create a good teaching environment and a good collaboration with Haukeland University Hospital
  • Emphasis will be put on the ability of the applicant to create a good research environment
  • Basic teaching training is a requirement. The successful candidate will be offered appropriate training if this requirement has not been met before the appointment


Proven willingness and ability to cooperate will be of great importance in the evaluation process.

The teaching language will normally be Norwegian. The successful applicant must be able to teach in Norwegian or one of the other Scandinavian languages within two years of his/her appointment. Norwegian courses will be offered.

The successful candidate shall work within one of the established research groups at the department.

Salary

Professor salary will be paid in accordance with level 72-75 (code 1013) on the government salary scale, at present NOK 648 100 - 684 600 gross p.a. for a full-time position. For an associate professor the initial salary pay grade is 59-62 (code 1011/pay framework 24.3-24.6) on the government salary scale; at present NOK 507 100 - 535 900 gross p.a. for a full-time position; following ordinary meriting regulations. A pension contribute of 2% will be deducted and deposited to the state pension scheme. In the case of highly qualified applicants a higher salary may be considered.
