Postdoctoral Research Associate in Cell Mechanotransduction Modelling

Job Details

MultiSim is a five-year programme that aims to create a new modelling framework for the human musculoskeletal system. The £6.7 million Frontier Engineering grant from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) – awarded to the world leading and innovative Insigneo Institute – will improve treatments for diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

The Post

The post holder will work the modelling and simulation of cell mechanotransduction osteocyte network to control osteoblast and osteoclast activation in bone under physiological and pathological conditions. A modelling approach will be taken to simulate the influence of the mechanical stimuli within the osteocyte network on the activation of ion and molecular pathways that control calcium release. The models will be integrated into a hypermodelling framework that consists of several sub-models at various scales (cell, tissue, organ, body) so that an overall musculoskeletal model can be generated.

Requirements

Applicants should hold a PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or related disciplines and be familiar with modelling of cells and the musculoskeletal system. The post is full-time and fixed term for 2 years.
