Job Details
Applications are invited for PhD research in the area of rural geography (farming). The research will be supervised by Dr Steven Emery and focus on the relationship between cultural values and farming practices. In particular, applications are invited on the following topics:
- Agri-Environment Schemes, conservation, environmental and landscape perceptions
- Cooperation and collaboration between farmers (including political organisations)
- Food security and sustainable intensification
- Farming responses to other agricultural and environmental policies or legislation
- Proposals that adopt predominantly qualitative or ethnographic approaches will be favoured.
Funding Notes
UK and EU applicants may enter the competition for ESRC and / or AHRC scholarships at the University of Birmingham, depending on the specific research topic. A separate application is required for the funding competitions. Deadlines for these are in January (AHRC) and February (ESRC), and applicants interested in applying for such funding must contact the named supervisor and apply for PhD study at Birmingham well ahead of these deadlines.
