Details

Tropical linear algebra is a counterpart of the linear algebra developed over the tropical semiring. This is a relatively new branch of linear algebra that appeared in 1960’s and has enjoyed rapid development over the last two decades, which has been also due to its applicability in scheduling and discrete event systems.
In this project, it is proposed to investigate and develop further some of the existing matrix decompositions in tropical algebra (like LU or QR and CSR decomposition), and to find new analogues to those decompositions that exist in the conventional linear algebra. The theoretical results could then find their application in scheduling, or be useful in the conventional numerical analysis (via some approximation ideas).
