Job Details

Details

We are leading the UK National Quantum Technology Hub in Sensors and Metrology – a ground-breaking £80m collaborative project in partnership with the Universities of Glasgow, Nottingham, Southampton, Strathclyde and Sussex and in collaboration with over 70 industry partners. We are changing the way you see the brain, medical imaging, underground hazards, communicate and even outer space beyond the capabilities of current sensor technology, boosting demand for this world-leading technology.

This project builds on our recent successes to engineer light which displays non-classical features. These include the generation of quantum entanglement between regions of a beam of light, dubbed “quantum images” [1], and light with reduced quantum fluctuations, so-called squeezed light [2]. You will develop the next generation of portable devices to generate quantum light and realize proof-of-principle demonstrations of application of quantum light such as the enhancement of optical super-resolution beyond the quantum limit, the noiseless amplification of images, or multichannel quantum communications.

Desirable skills for this project are a strong experimental ability, in particular in optics, a good understanding of quantum mechanics and possibly quantum optics, and an interest in quantum technologies.
