LECTURER

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for:

• Presenting undergraduate lectures and practicals in Biology in the BSc four-year (extended) programme at the Mamelodi campus of the University;
• Developing a research programme in the Department of Plant Production and Soil Sciences, which also entails the supervision of postgraduate students and obtaining grant funding.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• MSc in Plant Science or a related field;
• One year experience in undergraduate lecturing;
• Driver's License.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

• Sufficient knowledge to lecture and present practicals to undergraduates in Biology;
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint);
• Documented proof of own research outputs in Plant Science or a related field;
• Appropriate language and communication skills, both written and verbal.

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

• PhD in Plant Science or a related field;
• Two years' experience in undergraduate lecturing;
• Experience with BSc undergraduate bridging/extended programmes, such as the BSc four-year programme at UP;
• Experience in Plant Science research that complements the existing departmental strengths, especially the fields of Plant Systematics, Plant Pathology or Plant Biotechnology.

The total remuneration package for this position ranges from approximately R 375 614 to R 497 258 as determined by UP policy guidelines. (These amounts include the University’s contributions to standard UP benefits, namely provident fund, group life and funeral cover, but exclude contributions to medical aid, as the latter varies per employee.) UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
