The Research Assistant will be responsible for the daily functioning of the Edmonton (headquarters) site of the Victoria Longitudinal Study (VLS), coordination with the Victoria site of the VLS, communication with collaborators (local, national, international), management of the VLS research data bases, administrative support and other related duties as required to support research studies and ensure adherence to research guidelines.

Duties

  • Manages research databases ensuring accuracy
  • Performs data collection, analysis, and maintenance
  • Coordinates researchers and research sites (especially Edmonton and Victoria)
  • Assists with the preparation of class presentations, manuscripts, posters, newsletters, and reports (including graphs, charts and summaries)
  • Maintains project websites
  • Ensures the proper preparation, formatting, drafting and editing of the forms for the research ethics review
  • Assists in the recruitment of participants (receives referrals, contacts potential applicants, verifies medical conditions, etc.)
  • Conducts literature searches on databases such as PubMed to provide background information on research projects and new advances
  • Performs vigilance in managing confidential information
  • Maintains security of backup of all hardware and software to prevent possibilities of data loss or confidentiality breaches
  • Maintains and orders lab equipment and supplies


Qualifications

  • BSc or BA in disciplines related to human psychological or health research preferred
  • Familiarity with the following programs is desirable: SPSS, Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint),  Adobe Creative Cloud including Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Muse
  • Basic or proficient statistical skills is an asset
  • Experience with human research ethics and procedures is an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail and high standards of work performance
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work efficiently in a professional and ethical manner in accordance with University of Alberta policies and procedures
