The School of Chemistry are currently recruiting for two Research Analysts to be based within the Organic Geochemistry Unit.

The post-holders will undertake the bulk of the routine processing of archaeological potsherds sampled as part of the NeoMilk project. This will include the preparation of pottery samples for lipid analysis (cataloguing, photographing, cleaning, grinding, extracting, and screening via GC), as well as the operation of sample preparation and analytical instrumentation. Related duties include the provision of support in the use of specialised equipment, risk assessment, safe handling of chemicals, safe storage and waste disposal.

After a period of training the post-holders will also help maintain and support a range of instruments (GC, GC-MS, HT-GC-MS, GC-C-IRMS).

In order to apply, you will need to have a first degree in Chemistry or a related discipline, previous experience of working in a laboratory, a basic understanding of analytical chemistry as well as experience of operating and maintaining a range of scientific instrumentation, including data collection.

An interest in archaeological science; an appreciation of the contribution of analytical chemistry to solving archaeological questions would be desirable.

The posts are offered on a full time basis funded for 18 months.
