Job Details
This role resides in the Machining Group, which is the oldest and largest group within the AMRC, consisting of around 90 staff members focused on delivering innovative manufacturing solutions to both the UK and global manufacturing industry. This Technical Fellow job role carries the responsibility to lead a key technology area and research team at the AMRC; the Process Monitoring and Control Research Group. The long-term management, development and growth of a team comprising of technical leads, project engineers and technicians is required. Ultimate responsibility to ensure delivery of technical content of the groups’ projects lies with the Technical Fellow, where the annual project portfolio is currently forecast at over £1M. The Technical Fellow will identify emerging technologies and opportunities for funding; and define and deliver group road maps for technical progression of the technology group (3, 5 and 10 year vision).
A high degree of technical competence and experience is required in machining, sensing, instrumentation, software development, cutting process modelling, cutting tool measurement, manufacturing process design, NC programming, machine tool metrology and on-machine inspection. A contribution to the AMRC reputation is necessary by advising customers and AMRC teams on a range AMRC projects covering at least these listed technology areas. The candidate will require a broad range of experience of machining processes with specialist knowledge in process monitoring and control technologies.
A PhD (or equivalent experience) in a related subject is also essential.
