The Merck Research Laboratories (MRL) Exploratory Science Center (ESC) Cambridge, a wholly owned subsidiary of Merck and Co., is focused on driving early discovery research. Co-located with Merck’s Cambridge Innovation Hub, the ESC’s disease-area-agnostic research agenda fosters hands-on collaboration between our scientists and external academic and biotech researchers to access and explore the most promising emerging science.

Merck, a global healthcare leader, has an immediate opening for an exceptional scientist to join our newest research site located in Cambridge, MA. The successful candidate, as part of the MRL-Cambridge Exploratory Science Center leadership team, will be responsible for recruiting, training, management and personal development of a team of 12-15 scientists with diverse skill sets to deliver a pipeline of projects spanning from small to large molecule modalities. In this role, the incumbent will contribute to developing the scientific objectives in addition to overseeing a portfolio of projects and having responsibility for rigorous scientific quality and pipeline progress. Furthermore, the incumbent will help to identify and review opportunities for collaboration, licensing and acquisition in support of the pipeline. To accomplish the above, the successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, cross functional collaboration and communication skills.

Qualifications

Education:

- Required: Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field

Required Experience:

- Minimum of (8) years Industry experience in Drug Discovery

- Minimum of (3) years Industry experience in People Management and/or Project Leadership

- Experience in the design and characterization of small molecules, peptides or biologics

- Experience in drug discovery including project leadership

- Experience in communication, collaboration and leadership skills in a team environment
