Faculty of Medicine, Academic Unit of Clinical and Experimental Sciences

This post offers an exciting opportunity to join Professor Andrew Lotery’s established visual science academic research group.  The post has been created to lead and oversee the development of a tissue bank for human ocular tissue.

The successful candidate will establish an ‘Eye Biobank’ for storage of eye tissue for use in research studies only.

This will involve:

1) Generating relevant ethical and research governance paperwork and permissions for an eye biobank within the University of Southampton/University Hospital Southampton.

2) Establishing the eye biobank complies with all legislation relating to storage of human tissue

3) Establishing standard operating procedures for eye tissue collection, processing and storage

4) Establishing standard operating procedures for use of eye biobank tissue for research use

The eye biobank will provide a platform for many research projects in the future and will allow a dynamic group of vision scientists to study ocular disorders in new ways, paving the way to improving care for people with eye diseases.

We are looking for a motivated and organised individual to set up a new research project. You will require good writing skills, interpersonal skills and attention to detail in order to deliver this project on time. Project management skills and previous experience in gaining research ethics and information governance permissions would be desirable.

The post is for one year in the first instance with a desired start date of 1st October 2016.
