The University of Queensland Diamantina Institute was established in 2007 as the sixth research institute of The University of Queensland. The aim of the Institute is to develop a better understanding of the molecular and cellular basis of disease, and to translate that understanding into practical outcomes for patients. Based at the Translational Research Institute (TRI) at the Princess Alexandra Hospital teaching campus in Brisbane, the Institute has almost 300 researchers and students who work closely with clinicians in the areas of cancer, immunology and genomic medicine. UQDI is the largest partner in TRI, and is building major programs in Immunology, Cancer and Genomic Medicine research, with a particular focus on research aimed at development of new treatments. The role

Particular focus is given on the exploitation of immunogenic chemotherapy in combination with established and novel immunotherapeutic approaches (nanoparticles) with the final goal to provide the rationale to design and activate new mechanism-based clinical trials of cancer immunotherapy. This position will involve large number of in vitro, in vivo and ex vivo experiments, involving animal handling, immune subset isolation and characterization, advanced immunomonitoring assays and complex flow cytometry.

The person

Applicants should possess a relevant science degree with honours and a strong background in immunology/tumour immunology. Experience in flow cytometry and in vivo mouse experimentation is critical. Knowledge and skills in immunohistochemistry is also an advantage. The appointee will work with under the supervision of a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to develop a program of research to support these goals, and will also be expected to assist higher degree students.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment for 1 year (possibility of extension) at a HEW Level 5. The remuneration package will be in the range of 62,716 - $70,241 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $73,378  – $82,182 p.a.).
