This position will be administered by the School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SoLES). The School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES) is a new School consisting of staff previously in the Schools of Biological Sciences and Molecular Biosciences, the Faculty of Veterinary Science, and the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment, and forms part of the Division of Natural Sciences (DNS). The DNS enrolled 6,177 undergraduate students, 1,129 postgraduate students and 1,108 international full fee paying students (u/g and p/g) in 2014. The School has reporting lines to the Dean of each of the three faculties for line management of the Head, and the management of the School should be in liaison with the Division Board.

The creation of SOLES is a major component of the broader Life, Earth and Environmental Sciences (LEES) program designed to significantly improve the quality and efficiency of teaching and build new infrastructure to support and enhance capacity in research and teaching. It is a large School divided into five research and teaching clusters each with its own Chair.

You will have responsibility for teaching and research in the areas of plant molecular and cellular biology. You will have tertiary teaching experience and will have an established national research profile in a relevant field. You will engage with and contribute to faculty research and learning and teaching activities and processes.

The successful person will have the following:

  • A PhD in Plant Cell Biology or a closely allied field
  • Capacity to co-ordinate, prepare, deliver and evaluate relevant teaching units in biology and plant science at tertiary level, including feedback and assessment.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail, and ability to work to deadlines
  • Research skills in plant cell biology that can be applied to the development of teaching materials in cell biology and plant science
  • Ability to supervise students
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Skills in microscopy techniques
