Job Details

Sr. Project Scientist - Engineer-CHE004810

Description

Merck & Co., Inc. Kenilworth, N.J., U.S.A. known as Merck in the United States and Canada, is a global health care leader with a diversified portfolio of prescription medicines, vaccines and animal health products. Today, we are building a new kind of healthcare company – one that is ready to help create a healthier future for all of us.

Our ability to excel depends on the integrity, knowledge, imagination, skill, diversity and teamwork of an individual like you. To this end, we strive to create an environment of mutual respect, encouragement and teamwork. As part of our global team, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with talented and dedicated colleagues while developing and expanding your career.

The Center for Materials Science & Engineering (CMSE) is seeking a Senior Project Scientist/Engineer who, as an individual contributor, will apply materials science, engineering science and (bio)chemical analysis to global manufacturing. Projects typically involve technical risk assessment (for strategic changes) or root-cause investigation for manufactured pharmaceutical and bio-sterile/vaccine products, for both human and animal health.

The Senior Project Scientist/Engineer represents the CMSE on global project teams that often include representatives from Technical Operations, Quality and partner Analytical Science groups. He/she is both a technical leader and effective collaborator who provides consulting, laboratory analyses of materials (raw, intermediate, final product, packaging and process) and scaled-down process experimentation. The CMSE lab includes state-of-the-art structural, spectroscopic (chemical/physical), mechanical and other techniques for complex fluids, surfaces, powders and functional solids. The Senior Project Scientist/Engineer aims to understand the relationship between material structure, function and processing across a very wide range of product formulation and process scenarios, however, he/she seeks deep, niche expertise with specific materials, formulations, unit operations, characterization and/or modeling approaches in order to strengthen the CMSE, which is an interdisciplinary mix of engineers, chemists, physicists and materials scientists.

Strength in problem solving, applied research and communication skills is valuable.
