Project Title: Assessing herpesvirus-host cell interactions
Human herpesviruses are responsible for a range of debilitating acute and chronic infections, in addition some members are associated with human cancers. Conventional anti-herpesvirus therapy has been effective for many years, however the emergence of drug-resistant strains and the lack of effective antivirals or vaccines for the oncogenic herpesviruses necessitates the continued development of anti-herpesvirus strategies and reagents.
You will become part of a multi-member laboratory team investigating the molecular mechanisms of viral infection and the essential role of virus-host cell events. These are fundamentally important to ultimately develop new effective antiviral agents that target viral proteins or host factors.
You should be able to function as part of a multi-member team to facilitate our on-going research. Previous experience with protein purification, cell culture, molecular biology, virology, stem loop qRT-PCR and virus replication assays is essential
Informal enquiries may be made to Professor Adrian Whitehouse, email a.whitehouse@leeds.ac.uk.
More information about research ongoing in the Whitehouse laboratory can be found at http://www.fbs.leeds.ac.uk/staff/profile.php?tag=Whitehouse_A
