An exciting opportunity has emerged for a Group Services Manager to join the team within the Faculty of Business and Economics.

Our standing as NZ's leading tertiary institution is the result of our people.  This position presents the opportunity to manage the provision of administrative and professional services to a group of schools and/or departments that will assist academic heads and staff to achieve teaching and learning objectives.

Reporting to the Director of Faculty Operations this position is accountable for providing leadership to group services professional staff.  You will be responsible for continually improving processes and services to ensure the implementation of school/department strategies.

Key roles and responsibilities in the faculty:

  • Assist academic heads to develop the strategic and annual plans to align with the core activities of the University – teaching and learning, and research.

  • Provide strong, effective management to staff to ensure they contribute towards the team and faculty strategic goals.

  • Manage and co-ordinate the provision of academic administration and professional services, to support academic head activities.

  • Develop and maintain best practice systems and procedures in accordance with University requirements.

  • In consultation with the Director of Faculty Finance, maintain finances within the allocated budget.

  • Develop and maintain excellent and collaborative working relationships with academic heads and all functional managers.

  • Work collaboratively toward continuous improvement processes throughout group services.

  • Responsible for managing health, safety and wellness in their group.

  • Report to the faculty leadership team on equity related activities and outcomes within the team.


To be successful in this position you will preferably hold a bachelors degree or a relevant tertiary qualification.  You will be able to demonstrate proven administration and management experience in a large complex organisation.  A proven and capable people manager you will be comfortable building teams and leading change. You will be highly proficient in using computerised systems including Microsoft Office, people management and financial systems.

Your proven ability to work collegially and in partnership with stakeholders and internal customers will be second nature.  You will be able to build successful partnership with academics and gain an understanding of key academic drivers.
