Description
The Merck Research Laboratories (MRL) Exploratory Science Center (ESC) Cambridge, a wholly owned subsidiary of Merck and Co., is focused on driving early discovery research. Co-located with Merck’s Cambridge Innovation Hub, the ESC’s disease-area-agnostic research agenda fosters hands-on collaboration between our scientists and external academic and biotech researchers to access and explore the most promising emerging science.

We are seeking an innovative, PhD level immunologist to join the Merck Exploratory Science Center (ESC) in Cambridge, MA.
- Successful candidate will become part of a creative and flexible team that will investigate host/pathogen interactions, the influence of the microbiome on host immunity and immune responses to novel vaccines with the ultimate goal of delivering novel therapeutics to address significant unmet medical need in infectious disease as well as broader indications.
- Will manage a group of immunologists as well as lead cross-functional teams and orchestrate the strategic direction of research programs.
- In addition, will be expected to proactively identify and leverage advances in immuno-biology research as well as new technologies to impact programs.
- Furthermore, will interact extensively with the scientific community and manage external collaborations to execute on ESC strategy.
Qualifications
Education:
- Required: Ph.D. in Immunology or related discipline
Required Experience:

Minimum of (4) years postdoctoral or equivalent industrial experience
- Deep understanding of innate immunity and / or T and B-cell biology.
- Experience managing a group of scientists.
- Demonstrated ability to lead research teams
- Ability to contribute to the strategic direction of research programs.
- Effective communication skills
- Strong history of publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Preferred Experience:
- Knowledge of host immune responses to vaccination and natural infection
- Research experience with the microbiome.
