The Wilson facility, located at the intersection of I-95 and US 264 Alternate, is a 500,000 square foot solid dosage / packaging site on 225 acres. The facility has been in operation since 1983, and is Merck’s Packaging Center of Excellence for North America.

Wilson, NC is conveniently located approximately 2 hours from NC beaches and 45 minutes from the state capitol, Raleigh, NC. Wilson is home to Vollis Simpson's Windmill Farm, the only North Carolina Baseball Museum and the Wilson Botanical Gardens.

The Senior Specialist Engineer is responsible for providing technical support to the Bottle/Blister/Vaccine Integrated Production Teams in determining best method for providing optimum performance in manning, equipment, systems, documentation, and asset utilization. Also responsible for process performance support and troubleshooting for products manufactured at MMD-Wilson. Working closely with Packaging Technology for the transfer of new products and processes from MRL or other MMD site to MMD-Wilson.

Primary
DUTIES:

•Responsible for the scale-up and technology transfer of pilot processes to production scale for MMD-Wilson. This includes support for equipment design, equipment qualification, process demonstration, and process validation.
•Provides technical assistance to packaging operations in the resolution of processing problems for in-line products.
•Provides written scientific justification for proposed changes by conducting literature search, designing and executing experiments, analytically reviewing current and past data, and demonstrating the impact of process changes on product quality, production efficiency, productivity or cleaning validation.
•Provides technical assistance for quality and regulatory activities including site inspections, preparation of technical documents for NDA supplements, FDA observation, and environmental process issues.
•Responsible for completing all process engineering/process development activities with the highest regard for all Merck Divisional policies and Wilson site procedure for safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
•Review literature pertaining to pharmaceutical packaging in order to introduce new profitable/productivity ideas into the packaging operation.
•Provides technical support in critically evaluating quality standard specifications and methods for raw materials and intermediate and final products.

Qualifications

Education Minimum Requirement:

•B.S. in Chemical/ Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or Pharmaceutical Sciences and a minimum of (4) four years of experience in Pharmaceutical unit operations or Process Design.

• M.S. in Chemical/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or Pharmaceutical Sciences and a minimum of (3) three years of experience in pharmaceutical unit operations, or process design.

Required Experience and Skills:

•Responsible for the development of staff engineers and scientists by acting as a formal mentor.
•Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills.
•Excellent analytical ability.
•Proven communication ability
