Programming Team Leader

Full time, fixed term until 30 September 2018

The Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Clinical Trials Unit (CRCTU) is one of the largest UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) registered clinical trials units in the country and specialises in running cancer clinical trials. The Unit has an extensive portfolio of phase I, II and III clinical trials in adults and children covering a wide range of disease sites. The Unit employs a multidisciplinary team of over 150 staff including statisticians, systematic reviewers, trial management staff, research nurses, monitors, programmers, administrators and IT staff. The CRCTU receives substantial core funding from Cancer Research UK and additional funding from other charities, government and pharmaceutical companies.

CRCTU are seeking an experienced programmer with formal project management qualifications, who has an expert understanding of database design and administration, and an ability to deliver complex systems to time and target, to take on the role of the Programming Team Leader. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of (Senior) Analyst Programmers and Database Administrators with responsibility for the design, development and maintenance of clinical trial databases, they will also contribute to the strategic and operational management of the Unit.

Although the overall purpose of the CRCTU is to produce academic output, this is not an academic role.

The successful candidate will be working in the Robert Aitken building which has been refurbished by Advantage West Midlands (AWM) through Birmingham Science City: Translational Medicine Clinical Research Infrastructure and Trials Platform.
