The Institute for Transport Studies is one of the leading global providers of postgraduate training and is looking to strengthen its team in the field of transportation engineering to support our growing postgraduate student population and a new undergraduate programme in Civil Engineering with Transport.

We are seeking a Lecturer (Teaching and Scholarship) to help deliver and support our engineering facing student experience both at the Institute but also, as part of our contribution to a new Joint School between Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) and the University of Leeds (UoL) at the SWJTU campus in the city of Chengdu in China. You will spend some of the year (typically 6 to 8 weeks in a calendar year) in Chengdu, carrying out teaching at the Joint School.

 

Requirements

You will have a first degree in civil engineering (or similar) that was accredited to Chartered Engineering level by ICE or equivalent international body and you will have either; significant industrial experience in any relevant field of civil engineering and/or construction that will complement current areas of expertise within the School; a PhD in a relevant area of civil engineering; or experience of teaching and development of relevant courses in a Higher Education establishment.

You will also have experience of transportation engineering in a range of contexts and a track record and demonstrable commitment to the training and development of transportation engineers. This experience may come from practice, academia or a combination of these but you would be expected to demonstrate enthusiastic and effective teaching skills alongside a range of delivery techniques and assessment methods. You will have excellent team working skills with an ability to work in a cross-cultural team, and possess excellent communication skills.

We are open to applications from candidates with a wide range of experience across highway, rail or inter-modal design and construction with experience of developed, emerging economies and developing country contexts but who have advanced technical knowledge.
