The University’s Faculty of Dentistry has been training dental practitioners for over a hundred years. The faculty offers a rigorous research and training program and produces research scholars of international standing and highly skilled general practice and specialist clinicians.

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer (level B) or a Senior Lecturer (level C) in Oral Surgery to join the faculty. This exciting and innovative appointment – primarily based at Westmead – and working part-time at Royal North Shore and Westmead hospitals, offers an outstanding opportunity to exercise academic coordination, to develop a specialist oral surgery training program, and to lead commercial opportunities to enhance the research and teaching endeavours of the faculty.
 

To succeed in securing this role you will have:

  • experience of leadership and continuous improvement in the academic endeavour and demonstrated skills in academic leadership and management of staff (essential for a Level C appointment)
  • desire and capacity to mentor staff internally
  • a dental qualification registerable in Australia and a DClinDent in Oral Surgery or equivalent
  • an excellent research record showing understanding of and experience in research and in particular research in clinical settings
  • capacity to devise research projects and to contribute to professional and scholarly literature in dental clinical education
  • previous experience in a university or educational setting; experience in interacting with students and facilitating student learning; and experience with facilitation of problem-based learning
  • experience in clinical supervision and the treatment of a wide spectrum of patients
  • knowledge and understanding of evidence-based dentistry
  • experience in dealing with managers within the health sector
  • a PhD - in specialist dento-maxillo-facial subject (desirable).
