The School of Agriculture and Food Sciences is one of the largest Schools of this type in Australia, comprising research and teaching experts in plant and soil science, animal science, agricultural business, environmental science and food, nutrition and technology; contributing to UQ being ranked the top university in Australia for Agriculture and Environmental Science, with global rankings in the 2015 QS subject ranking of 15th in Agriculture and 11th in Environmental Science. With a diverse group of internationally regarded scientists located at St Lucia and Gatton, our researchers deliver knowledge, skills and techniques that provide solutions to global challenges in climate change, feeding the world, managing the environment, replacing fossil fuels with biofuels, maintaining biodiversity and supporting economic and community development. The School has a strong research profile and a close association with the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation (QAAFI) a joint initiative between UQ and the Queensland State Government.

 

The role

The successful applicant will contribute to, and provide leadership to, the teaching and research activities in the field of Soil Fertility in the School and the University. They will work with the Head of School and the other members of the soil science group to develop UQ's Soil Science research profile, and to integrate the teaching and research programs in Soil Science. Located at UQ St Lucia campus, the appointee will be responsible for undergraduate and postgraduate course coordination, teaching and program development; and will be expected to contribute substantially to the national and international research profile of the School, supervise research students, obtain external grant funding and undertake professional activities.

 

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD in any of the broad range of soil fertility disciplines (chemistry, physics, biology, plant nutrition), and have substantial post-doctoral experience in Soil Fertility. Applicants will also demonstrate teaching skills at undergraduate and postgraduate level, effective supervision of research students, and have a strong research portfolio. We seek to appoint a scientist with interest and experience in field based soil science / crop nutrition research to compliment a broader grouping of soil scientists and agronomists.

 

Remuneration

One full-time continuing position is available. The appointment will be made at Academic Level B, C or D depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant. The remuneration package will be in the range:

Academic Level B: $89,458.97 - $106,232.23 p.a.; plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $104,666.99 - $124,291.71 p.a.)
Academic Level C: $109,586.85 - $126,360.11 p.a.; plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $128,216.61 - $147,841.33 p.a.)
Academic Level D: $131,951.19 - $145,370.30 p.a.; plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $154,382.89 - $170,083.25 p.a.)
