Job Description

PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis via Truvada®) is a current hot topic as a biomedical form of HIV prevention. Albeit not yet available in the Netherlands, men having sex with men (MSM) are informally using PrEP or are part of research trials. The project funded by the Dutch AIDS Fonds seeks to investigate in a longitudinal approach how PrEP users and non-users are engaging in HIV risk reduction strategies in this novel context. The PhD position fuses applied social psychology combined with health psychology. Research will be conducted in collaboration with Prof dr. John DeWit (Utrecht University) and partners in the USA and Thailand.

The candidate will work in the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience, Dept. Work and Social Psychology, section Applied Psychology at the Maastricht University.

Teaching 25%; Research 75%

Requirements

A very good master or research master psychology with a focus on health or social psychology, or public health.

An interest in working in the field of HIV prevention research and with MSM populations.

The candidate should have, or be interested in acquiring skills to analyze quantitative cross-sectional and longitudinal data.

An excellent command of English is expected, Dutch language skills are an advantage.

Temporary employment for 4 years. Your salary would be € 2.174,-- gross per month in the first year up to € 2.779,-- gross per month in the fourth year according to the PhD-student salary scale. Each year an evaluation will take place.

Work & Social Psychology

The department of Work and Social Psychology (WSP) is one of the four departments through which the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience conducts its research. It accommodates two research sections: Applied Social Psychology and Work and Organisational Psychology. The research in both sections focuses specifically on the design and evaluation of theory-and evidence-based behaviour and organisational change programmes. Important research themes are health, safety, environment, and employment.
