Job Details
The Tuberculosis Research Unit in the Department of Medical Parasitology and Infection Biology is seeking a self-motivated and career-oriented candidate for a: Postdoc / Research Associate Position in the Field of Host-Pathogen Interaction
Minimum Qualification:
Candidates should have a PhD in life sciences, preferentially involving practical work using laboratory techniques in cell biology, microbiology and host-pathogen interaction (e.g. macrophage infections). Experience in bioinformatics and handling of next-generation sequencing data is a plus.
General requirements:
We are looking for a highly motivated and independent collaborator with an interest in cell biology and host-parasite interaction. The successful applicant will work in a multidisciplinary research environment focusing on population and functional genomics, experimental evolution, and genomic epidemiology of human tuberculosis. The goal of this new project is to study the interaction between Mycobacterium tuberculosis diversity and human genetic variation using a macrophage infection model.
This will include generating dual RNAseq and dual proteomics data of patient-derived macrophages infected with different M. tuberculosis clinical strains. Because M. tuberculosis is a Class 3 pathogen, the successful candidate will spend a significant amount of time working under Biosafety-Level-3 containment. The project is funded through a grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) recently awarded to Prof. Sébastien Gagneux.
Salary will be according to SNSF's salary scheme. The contract will be for 2 years with potential for extension. Employment will be according to standard regulations of the Swiss National Science Foundation.
A tentative starting date is August 1st but this is flexible.
