At the University of Bergen, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Department of Clinical Science, Centre for Pharmacy, a full-time temporary position as PhD-candidate is available.

The candidate will be appointed for a period of four (4) years or max 4 months after completed the PhD-degree, if this is achieved within a shorter time than four years. The position includes 25 % duty work such as teaching, exam work or supervision, depending on the demands at the department. The duty work will be connected to the teaching in pharmacology at the Centre for Pharmacy. 

The position is associated to the project "Therapeutic nanoparticles for treatment of acute myeloid leukaemia". 

Project

The aim of the project is to establish and work with a zebrafish embryo model for acutem myeloid leukaemia (AML) and use this to test different nano-formulations for directed therapy of AML. The work will be both characterisation of the AML-zebrafish embro model, and further examine who therapeutic nanoparticles interact with AML-blasts and normal cells.

In addition to work with zebrafish-embryo, the following methods will be relevant:

  • Cell biology, including studies of cellular signalling pathways by flow cytometry and molecular biology

  • Transfection of cells to express surface markers

  • Development and production of therapeutic nanoformulations like liposomes and nanospheres

  • Conjugation of targeting likands like antibodies and small molecules to liposomes, drugs and fluorophores

Qualifications and qualities

  • The successful applicant must hold a master´s degree in pharmacy, or another relevant master’s degree

  • Personal skills will be emphasized, and potential experience from relevant research projects will be considered as positive

  • The candidate should be able to work independently and have a strong commitment and enthusiasm for research

  • The successful applicant must be fluent in oral and written English

 

Organized research training (PhD program)

In a PhD-position at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry you will participate in an approved program for a PhD within the set time period.You must have admission to the organized research training (PhD program) at the Faculty in order to qualify in a PhD-position.The final plan for the completion of the organized research training must be approved by the Faculty within three months after you have taken up the position.
