Job Details
In many chemical processes there are limitations on the sampling rates and the number of inputs and outputs may not match. This affects the structure of the control law as one ends up with a so called multi-rate or non-square system , for which conventional control design is not applicable. However, the structure will fit neatly into predictive control and hence effective control can be performed. The aim of this project would be to look at how the MPC structure could be optimised in the multi-rate and/or non-square and/or decentralised setting to give both good performance but a relatively low computational load.
Funding Notes
Prospective applicants should have a degree in a subject relevant to the project (applicants from all disciplines are highly encouraged to apply).
Applicants can apply for a Scholarship from the University of Sheffield but should note that competition for these Scholarships is highly competitive. http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/acse/research-degrees/scholarships
