The School of Civil Engineering is one of the largest schools in Australia with 36 full-time academic staff members who are widely published internationally and have extensive research backgrounds ranging from structures, fluids, coastal, environmental, geotechnical, transport and fire.

The School has recently initiated a 5-year, $2.5M research program with government and industry partners in the Centre of Future Timber Structures (CFTS).  CFTS is a Centre of Excellence for: a) the education of future timber industry professionals, and b) the creation of knowledge-based innovations that can drive the future development of timber in the built environment. To support the developing activities of the CFTS the school is seeking to further build academic strength in timber/structural/fire engineering with one or more new position(s) as below.

The innovative technologies developed and the research-based education provided by the Centre will be highlighted through exemplars of applications that will help to illustrate how these technologies can be introduced into the market.

The role

As a Lecturer or Senior lecturer, the successful appointee will have access to start-up resources and ongoing support, and will be encouraged to apply for their own research funding, working with undergraduate and postgraduate students and to supervise doctoral students.

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD in the area of Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Engineering, Biomaterials, Wood Science, or an equivalent discipline. Research interests in timber/structural/fire/construction may include, but are not limited to, sustainable timber construction; low grade timber building systems; timber and timber adhesive high temperature performance; composite or hybrid timber systems; timber strength, durability, and connection design; energy efficient timber construction; timber fabrication and construction techniques; improving construction productivity; or tall timber buildings and non-residential timber construction qualifications in relevant disciplines. You should also have a strong desire to develop a successful and highly-productive research career, good general research skills, a strong methodological background, excellent statistical and analytic skills, very good writing abilities, and the capacity to work with multidisciplinary research teams.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, continuing appointment at Academic level B or C. The remuneration package will be in the range $89,458 - $106,232 p.a for Level B and $109,586 - $126,360 p.a. for level C., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $104,667 - $124,291 p.a. (Level B) and $128,216 - $147,841 p.a. (Level C)).
