The Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (M+BS) is an internationally acclaimed provider of world-class education and research. M+BS is a research-intensive Faculty that has a budget of almost $300M. M+BS offers Australia's largest medical degree program for graduates and school-leavers. Undergraduate and postgraduate programs are available in the disciplines of Medicine, Health Sciences, eHealth, Mental Health, Biomedical Sciences and Public Health.

M+BS possesses enormous strengths spanning research, teaching, industry engagement and clinical practice in disciplines ranging from the basic sciences, biomedical research and development, to clinical trials and public health.  UQ has recently reorganised its Medical faculty structure to drive better student outcomes and student experience. As a result, this senior opportunity is available.

The role

The successful candidate for this prestigious post will provide academic leadership and management of clinical schools in both Australia and the US. The Medical Dean will serve as the academic lead for UQ's medical program and work as part of a Faculty executive team dedicated to creating a world-class, comprehensive and integrated MD/MBBS program.

A key aspect of the role will be working with the Executive Dean to build sustained and mutually beneficial relationships with clinical and health care partners. The Medical Dean will also have oversight of the Office of Medical Education, and be responsible for meeting the requirements of accreditation both in Australia and the US.

The person

We are seeking a vibrant and exceptional academic leader, who has the seniority and capacity to manage a complex and international group of clinical schools and a genuine passion for training the next generation of medical practitioners. The Medical Dean would most likely be active in medical practice. A genuine relationship builder, you should also be capable of developing and articulating a long term vision for the MD program.

Remuneration

This is a full time, fixed term appointment for 5 years at Academic Level E. An attractive remuneration package will be negotiated with the successful candidate including 17% superannuation.
